all trails |
1) Starting at Ascencion: Krabbenbos, then to the
Boca Ascencion, on to the North to the Suplado and
Patrick.
To enter the Krabbenbos (Forest of the crabs) you
turn back to the main road. Just before you come to
the main road, there is a trail to the left. Here
you enter the forest.Coming out of the shade, you
stand at the land side end of Boca Ascencion. There
are tons of drift plastic! If you turn right at this
point, you'll have to walk through the litter, but
after a while you'll see a dirt road, that leads to
the coast. Turn left! Otherwise this road will bring
you to the main road in ten minutes. And then what?
Standing at the land side end of Boca Ascencion you
can also go to the left and follow the trail along
the west side of the Boca. Watch the Boca, may be
turtles are swimming there!
Once you are at the coast, go on West untill you
come upon a bunch of old rusty stonebreakers. But
don't miss the fantastic 'suplado'. It is somewhere
at your right hand side, before you are at the
stonebreakers. |

2) You can also start this hike from Barber.
Start at the church of Barber. Don't park your car
at the church but somewhere at the side of the road.
This is one of our favorites! On the way to the
coast we found ourselves talking about the Utah
Canyonlands and the red rocks of Arozona. Why? The
colors of the rocks, the red sand at the coast, even
some small rockformations swept us off our feet and
sent us dreaming about the hikes in beautiful far
away countries... even Old Faithful in Yellowstone
was mentioned. The suplado is a wonderful sight. It
puffs and blows with every incoming wave that seeks
a way out of the cave it is pushed into with great
force.
Wear sturdy shoes for walking on the surface of the
hard coral tuff!
There are more, well marked, trails on the Ascencion
plantation. |
